Want to know the science behind clean, clear and happy pool water? It’s the delicate balance of filtration, sanitation and circulation. This can be easily attained through a well-maintained pool system. These three processes are the backbone of your pool system and can make or break your swimming experience. They must be well looked after on a constant basis for the health and wellness of your pool and you.

Every owner wants to maintain that inviting pool shimmer, so let’s look at how to keep that look up year round with just a little help from some routine maintenance.

Filter, Clean and Circulate

Filtration

The purpose of filtration is to trap small debris and matter. Pool professionals agree that a larger filter than you need benefits this system, increasing the filter’s surface area, lowering operating pressure, and giving your more time between cleanings.

Sanitation

Making sure the water is purified is the most important factor in your pool’s overall health.

We can not see pathogens and bacteria with the naked eye, so it’s critical to make this a safe, clean environment. Algae and bacteria can attach to ladders and lights in the water, so making sure your water balance is in check on an ongoing basis is incredibly important.

Circulation

The perfect scenario is a consistent high flow, moving water with no stagnation. Circulation, when working correctly, moves unfiltered water into the suction ports, and distributes filtered and treated water to the entire pool.

Some Helpful Hints

Rule of thumb is, if you have a large DE filter, you can get away with less circulation and sanitation. Adversely, if the pool is shocked daily, then there wouldn’t be the need for the filtration and circulation. It goes to show how these three processes work in rhythm with each other.
