Swimming pools have been around for a long time. And the longer anything is around, the more time there is for certain myths to develop.

Today, Artesian Pools Orlando is here to talk about a few of the myths around swimming pools.

Wait An Hour After Lunch

This is a pool myth I am sure anyone who has spent time around a pool has heard. While there is some level of truth to it, it is not substantial enough to claim cramps will happen every time someone gets into a pool after eating.

The lack of blood around the muscles, due to digestion redirecting blood to the stomach, is typically at the core of this issue. Cramps may develop as a result, but the chance is highly unlikely.

Chlorine Burns Eyes

Ever opened your eyes in chlorine water, and they inevitably end up burning? Well if you have then you’ll know all about this pool myth.

Actually, the chlorine levels in your water aren’t what burns your eyes, but the pH of the water itself. It’s all about balance. If you have a pool with a pH of 7.2 to 7.6, you should not experience any burning sensation in your eyes at all.

A Clear Pool Is A Healthy Pool

A pool’s health is not as clear an issue as it may seem. To properly assess the health of any pool, you’ll need to check the pool’s chemistry more closely. There are some particles that may affect the coloring of the pool and some that do not. The fact is, you can’t be sure how clean your pool is until you have checked the levels of the chemicals in its water.

Chlorine Smells When There Is Too Much

The chlorine smell we are all used to is actually not due to the chlorine itself, rather the product of a reaction with chlorine and other substances. When urine is mixed with chlorine, a new compound is created, called trichloramine, which is actually responsible for that pool smell we all know and love.
